Help!
I just got done replacing my outhaul (used the kit from Catalina Direct and had to do a lot of custom grinding to get the forward boom cap to fit with the replacement parts, for those interested). I in working with the boom I lifted the aft end about 25 degrees above perpendicular. Now the rigid boom vang won't lower back to its original position. If you lift the boom, it doesn't come back down. I can lean on it and then it pops back up and there is way too much resistance to crank down withe the vang lines.
Is there an adjustment that I am missing?
Scott,
I'm a little confused. Why is the vang setup so as to raise the boom so high? I have a couple of questions to ask.
Maybe you attached the boom portion of the vang too close to the mast. I've attached a photo showing my vang to give you an idea of how far out it is.
Hope this helps.

Scott,
After I viewed the picture again, it occurred to me you may not have set up the vain correctly. Do the following.
With that done, the vang will always under tension. Let me know if you need further help.
