Radar replacement

Hello and I recently purchased a 1987 Catalina 36 and the old radar system is beyond repair. Looking at a new Furuno model 1715 system. Any reccomendations? Intend to mount display on swing arm near companionway.......Thanks.

After a recent incident with a friend getting hit in the fog - I would argue that the display should be within reach of the helm.   Newer radar's are wireless - so there is a big reduction in the number of wrires needed to support them.  You don't mention what other electronics you have on the boat - or if you are already heading down the NMEA 2000 route for connectivity.  Everything is much easier if there is a consistent brand of Radar, Plotter, Pilot...

I've got Raymarine and have been very happy - but I have it because the plotter & Radar installed on the boat when I bought it last year were RM.

<<edit>>  I just looked at the suggested Radar - and personally I would not want a uni-purpose screen.  I would get a Radar and Chartplotter combo -

I agree with you. The radar display should be at the helm station. I recently installed a Quantum radar on my 36. I currently have a 12" A127 at the helm. Although I am considering the possibility of becoming a B&G demo boat, that Raymarine Quantum radar is awsome.
