We have a Catalina and we would like to find out if somebody can give me an idea of what cleaning product I can use to clean the gunwell (the rubber part that all catalinas have). Our boat is in Mexico and the sun makes the rubber part all stained. Thanks for your help !!!margarita bernard
I've been using acetone and then waxing with Collinite Fleetwax #855. Any good carnuba wax will do, but Collinite is the best I've found over the years. Apply with a fine water spray mist. We call it the rubrail, the gunwale is the fiberglass hull/deck joint just above it.

...and I guess I let mine go too long in the FL sun, since this weekend I tried cleaning my rubber rubrail with acetone and it barely took off anything. I know I used acetone before and it worked. I may have to try something a little stronger.

try rubbing it against a piling when you dock the boat; this works great for me...;)

I recently replaced my old (1999) rub rail with a new one from Catalina Direct.
Took about 1 hour, and now looks totally great!
The biggest revelation was all the material (sand, dirt, organisms, etc...) stuck behind the rub rail in the aluminum rail.
Now every time I hose down, I make sure and get the rub rail really good.
