New Autohelm

Our Raymarine ST 4000 has come to the end of it serviceable life, and we are trying to figure out what to replace it with.  I’d like to put  on a below deck unit, but unfortunately the cost is just more than I want to put into the boat at this stage of our sailing career. So I am thinking of replacing it with whatever the equivalent would be for the 4000 series auto helm. Any suggestions most welcome! New sails this year and canvas two years ago so we have to catch our breath for a couple years and get by with something other than the below hull option. Most of the time we do sell and only need the auto home for sure.’s of time, with one trip to the North Channel every couple years where we have 100 mile stretch. Thanks for any suggestions

I went with the EV-100 due to cost and ease of install. Sometimes a below deck EV-200 would be nicer. 95% of the time good enough. Very easy install. Took only 1 day.

I have the ev200 below deck. There are writups in the member section for installing in both Mk1 and mk2 boats. Remember the 200 can be used as an emergency tiller if the chain/cable fails.

I had the same problem. The ST 6000 will work as a replacement but, the 4000 has all the working components in the head or device on your podium. The 6000 has the computer mechanisim in a separate unit that has to be mounted below deck. Mine is on the aft bulhead in the aft compartment.

I had a local (New Jersey) Raymarine expert replace it and it cost, parts and labor, around $1,000 as I recall... it was about 4 years ago. You can look for that as an alternative.
