M25 needs replacing...but with what?

My 1985 36  Hull #420 has the original M25. I have availability of an M25XP, an M35 or Yanmar 30 or 35 hp. (In Schooner Bay Marina in Bayfield, Wi with the BEST diesel machanic on Lake Superior!!!)

I need some input and thoughts on mountings, bedding, and esperience of others!!! Please!

Scott-
More HP is nice, but probably involves a lot more modifications to fit....meaning expense. I would think that the  M25XP should have essentially the same footprint and fit. My 2 cents.

As Catalina went to the 35 (which is 30 hp) after many owners of the M25 complained that is was underpowered and most of the M35 owners are very happy with it, moving up in HP would be the way to go.

I replaced my original M25 engine with a M25XPB in 2013.  The new engine is still a Kubota engine, though a different block design.  It is marginally larger, but didn't require any changes. A larger engine would probably result in a modification to the engine cover box, ladder, and mounts.  The propshaft alignment might also be different. The only change was one mounting pad location.  It was moved slightly out board.  A block of teak ws bolted to the fiberglass mount under the engine for support.  Sure more HP from a larger engine would be nice (it has about 7% more than the old engine).  The fuel economy is very slightly less.  I get around 0.55 gals/hour operating at 2500 rpm.  The oil filter is easier to get at than the old unit.  For some reason the raw water pump, is the dumbest piece of engineerinI I have ever seen.  You can not change the impleller with the engine hot.  The original pump has 30 parts and requires removing the whole pump to change the impeller.  The Oberdorpher replacement has 12 parts and the a standard cover plate access to the empeller.  The Oberdorfer model number is 6593K.    Hope this helps.

Scott;
 Is there any possibility of rebuilding the older engine ? There are several reputable engine re-builders up in your area. Changing the engine to another type may result in a change of the transmission, shaft and propeller.

In my previous post, I provided the impeller part number.  The pump's part number is  N202M-908.
