Loose footed Mail sail

While having our Doyle Stac-Pac rehab-ed at the local sail maker he suggested that we might want to make our Fully Battened Main Sail 'loose footed'.

Has anyone done this and what results have you had ?

This is a much better setup and gives more control over the sail shape.  There's really no downside and i don't think anyone does the foot in a track anymore.

Jim,
Thanks for the comment. I was concerned that it might get in the way of the back stay. I gave the sail maker the green light to cut it at the foot and well see how it goes.  We'll now have an Doyle Stac-Pac with a loose footed jib.
Fair winds,
 Bill
