I'm shopping for new battery charger or charger/inverters and seeing that some are quite large. Promariner and Xantrex units are up to 19 x 8 x 4. Was wondering if other members have these units and where have they mounted them.
Thanks
Gary

Our C36 1993 has a freedom 20 mounted in the aft locker of the aft cabin on stbd. They installed a vent with hose to the cooling intake on the freedom 20 to pull air from aft cabin. See picture.

Gary,
Since the inverter part of a charger/inverter requires such large cables, most owners want to mount them as close to the batteries as possible. Under the chart table (dry, well ventilated, very close to batteries) seems to be the most logical place. Another spot for the MkII (not sure about the Mk1.5) is on the inboard bulkhead below the settee bench, just forward of the sink. Not as dry (possibly), not as ventilated, not as close, but out of the way. Your boat, your choice.

I put our IOTA under the chart table, it's on the bulkhead right behind the batteries, very short cables, lots of air ventilation and handy to the AC circuits.
We did the same on our C34, under the nav station right across from the battery banks, for the 1/0 wiring run pretty short run, shortest we could find. Sounds like a good option for your C36, whether your batteries are to starboard or forward of the galley.

Well, yes,I too mounted it under the chart table are for all the above mentioned reasons...problem is,i like to sleep in the aft cabin and the cooling fan for the xantrax 40 is noisy on an other wise silent boat(except for the quiet buzz of the AB refer)..iN Retrospect i wish i had put it in the stb aft lazarette like the original. If you dont use the aft cabin much tho,the chart table location is ideal.

Thanks for the replys everyone, all good idea's. I'm leaning towards locating it under the chart table. Is it necessary to remove the chair to do this, cant get to the boat for a couple of weeks to measure?

I have a ridiculously large 1.5 kW inverter charger, mounted on the aft side of the bulkhead between nav station and aft cabin, so just behind my right shoulder when I sit at the nav desk. Good spot as long as I turn it off at night so I don't have the thing buzzing away by my head!

On my 1994 MK1.75, I have a large "Matervolt" unit in the same place as Tom's i.e. under the main setee seat just forward of the sink, against the verticle side of the bildge facing seat side.
I don't think the cable run is more than four or so feet. I never hear the fan noise from the aft cabin.

I mounted a Xantrex Pro 1800 watt inverter behind the drawers under the TV cabinet. There is a fair amount of wasted space between the back end of the upper two drawers and the hull.

I have a Heart Interface 2000 watt inverter/100 amp charger under the chart table, controlled by a Link 1000 in the panel behind the chart table. Two golf cart gel cells where the original batteries were, and 4 more plus a starting battery under the sink. I had to reduce the bottom drawer depth slightly, not a difficult job. Chair didn't have to come out but I believe we took the front off the cabinet with the 4 drawers under the chart table. Great system - gives me 540 amp hours!

I was considering moving my charger from the port lazerrette to the space in the combing under the gaming table or under the nav station as many have done. Seems as though the noise would be confined under the gaming table and isolated from the sleeping areas.
