Future Loopers!

Hi fellow Catalina boater's!

Just wanted to to say how happy we are to join the Catalina team. We closed on our boat and had our sea trial on wed. It went perfect and we are now the delighted owners of a 36 shoal draft navy blue awl gripped sailboat we christened Celtic Cross II. Our goal is to get it paid off in the next few years and enjoy our retirement exploring the great Loop as many times as we can manage. All the info here is like gold to us. It even aided in our final sailboat choice because of all the support for the Catalina brand. It gives you more confidence in your boats future! Looking forward to reading and participating...

Welcome!

Catalina's are great boats.  Like you, this owner's group was a big factor in our decision to buy a Catalina.

Cheers

There are so many GREAT contributors to this forum.  A boat surveyor told me years ago to temper my desires to make changes / improvements besides cleaning, cosmetics, safety and operationally critical items during the first 12 - 18 months of ownership.  These boats have been designed and built with loads of experience by the Catalina team and feed back from Catalina owners of all size boats.  "Pente" is my fifth Catalina and I have learned with every boat.  Last week I did my first ever on this boat: oil & filter change, change of both fuel filters and impeller.  Saved $300 - $400 vs having marina mechanic do it.  Areas that I don't have deep skill set (battery electronics) or want to risk my health with (swapping out old 100# batteries), let the marina mechanics handle.  Post both your successes and your failures - we all learn from these.  Don't be surprised to get a detailed VERY personal e mail from experienced other C36 owners and regular contributors.   Welcome and enjoy.

Great resource, for sure!

When are you planning on looping?  We're planning the same on our C36, aiming for spring of 2018...

I have seen the Navy awl grip on later models, but not on earlier ones like yours (and mine).  Did you have it done or was it done by a prior owner? Have always loved the look.  Welcome aboard.

Hey  been a while  since I  have logged on...slacker  I guess or  just very busy! Our boat came awl gripped when we purchased her. it was one of the things that really  sold us. I love the beauty of the navy on the water!its stunning. It does require a lot more attention to keep scratching to a minimum but  worth it for the look. Ours has a red stripe also which adds to  the over all look. Thanks for the post!

Great to meet you! I'm pretty new here myself and it looks like a great forum. Plenty of good information.
