Frayed Wires

I was working on installing the upgraded alternator bracket for the M25, and had the ledge in the aft birth just behind the engine removed -- I noticed that the wires to the light were both frayed and exposing coper strands, not a good situation.  I suspect this was agravated because the self was never properly reinstalled at some point in the past.   The screws to old the shelf are  difficult at best.  To prevent this in the future I fastened the 3/4x3/4 blocking onto the hull, then screwed the shelf on from the outside - screws showing - rather than having hidden screws.   (please Ignore the dirty walls).   I suspect this might be a common fault in older boats - so MK1 owners may want to examine this area.
