Florida Marina

We are looking for a good home base marina in south Florida. We particualily like the Ft. Myers area, but are open to any suggestions as to where spend the winter, next year. Thanks!

One of the nicest marinas in the Fort Myers area is Burnt Store Marina on the Cape Coral/Charlotte county line. It is right on Charlott Harbor which opens to the Gulf of Mexico. You'll need a car in this marina because the closest stores are seven miles away on a road you would not want to ride a bike on.

The City Marina in Fort Myers is close to stores, but not as nice and it is several miles of motoring on the river to get to the area where you can sail on.

I like the Fishermans Village Marina in Punta Gorda. It is at a small shopping mall with about thirty stores, but no grocery store. You would need a bike to ride about two miles to a supermarket or about one mile to a convienence store. If you stay here for a month you'll want to live in the area permently.

All three Marina locations have web sites which you can access through Google. If you want to see photos of these or any other marinas in the Country try www.marinas.com.

One more thing the Ft Myers area is called Sothwest Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico not South Florida. South Florida is in the area of Miami etc. on the Atlantic Ocean side of Florida

I second Mike's comments 100%.

Fisherman's Village in Punta Gorda probably offer the best situation in my opinion in that you can bicycle all around the town to do most everything.
