depth sounder

My depth sounder is a Standard Horizon mounted on a white pod next to the wheel.  It has been giving crazy readings - 45 feet in the slip, 175 feet in an anchorage.  Don't know if the problem is the transducer or the meter itself.  Am trying to find a transducer to test it with, but so far no luck.  I understand that the meter is no longer made.  Has anyone found a suitable replacement, or a place where it can be repaired?

I would assume that there is someone that has an acoustice transducer tester in your area. Check your yellow pages.
They should check the acoustic transducers resonance frequency. I don't think yours is transformer-coupled or a magnetostrictive device. But, who ever you find, make sure their test device has those capabilities as well as the ability to measure the transducers relative phase, the impedance at resonance and it's leakage resistance.
If you can't find someone in the yellow pages, call Gemeco (803-693-0777) or Electronic Devices, Inc. (757) 366-9211) and ask if they know anyone in your area that tests acoustic transducers as they sell those acoustic test units.
Maybe it's time for some new electronics?
