Cockpit Table

The PO removed the cockpit table (I got it with the boat, but it's in storage).

1) How easy is it to install? An hour, two hours?

2) Do people use a sealant (e.g., 4200) to seal the deck? Is this a good thing to use butyl tape for? I obviously don't want it leaking through, but I also want it easy to remove. I have a feeling that I want it removed most of the season when I'm only doing day sailing, but install it when I'm cruising.

Thanks!

As far as sealant, either would work ok, but if you are going to be removing and reinstalling the table from time to time, I would go with butyl tape hands down. It is so easy to work with and remove.

I don't think the installation should be difficult if the holes are already in the deck. Obviously, it would be a big help to have another person below to assist.

David, I would think long and hard before you consider reinstalling the cockpit table. After owning our boat for over a year I decided to remove it and sell it in a local consignment shop. We have enjoyed the additional space that it freed up. I then purchased a flip up starboard table that we use whenever we have a meal onboard.

When we bought High Flight new from the factory, there were only two options we selected: the factory dodger and the factory cockpit table. We love the table and wouldn't want to be without it. It's a personal thing: just how you want to use your boat. We're not racers, so the extra space in an already roomy cockpit isn't an issue for us.

I purchased a folding table through Thai Teak Marine (they have great stuff by the way). It's great and folds out of the way when underway.
