BIMINI

Maybe somebody has a guy that knows a guy, I am looking to get a Bimini for my 1984 Catalina 36, perhaps someone out there has a contact, recommendation, perhaps someone who has just made the Bimini for your 1984 Catalina.

I got a guy, but he's here in NY, found him by word-of-mouth.
I would imagine anyone who is going to make a decent-fitting bimini (or dodger) would need to come and do measurements and fitting., so you'll need someone local.
Gotta be some decent canvas crafters / sail lofts in the Buzzards Bay area, given all the sailboats there....

Thanks for the response, you are correct I am working with a RI person now.     I am curious though can you share with me the cost, I have no idea what the project would cost, considering I have no frame etc, Perhaps 2K maybe 5K?  again do not have a clue.  I would appreciate it if you could share.

Thanks!

I think it depends on whether you are starting from scratch -- i.e., having a frame constructed as well as the canvas -- or just replacing an existing canvas using the same frame.   Our canvas guy is creating a new dodger for us for a bit over a grand.   A bimini seems to me to be less complicated.....

I had the canvas on my bimini replaced a couple of seasons ago.  It was about $800 if I remember correctly.  Keep in mind that you should specify the quality of the materials you want used.  I wanted Sunbrella and Strataglass, but the canvas company said if I was selling the boat and just wanted something cheap that looked OK for a year or two, they could use much cheaper materials and lower the price significantly. Not what I was looking for, but good to know.  So if you're getting competitive quotes from different canvas makers, make sure they're quoting comparable materials.
