Battery Supplier in San Diego

Hi All,
I need to replace my house batteries (presently 2 x 8D AGM). Any recommendations for a supplier in the San Diego area? I will probably go with 4Ds this time.

Thank you,
Tony

Tony,

I would caution the use of even 4Ds, because they are not true deep cycle batteries. Maine Sail has pointed this out to us.

There's also this from Maine Sail:

WalMart Battery Source

Another alternative is to look up American Battery in your area (or zip codes). We have a distribution warehouse near us up here, and I get good prices on them around Boat Show times.

Good luck. BTW, 4Ds are NOT very good for your back!

Thanks for the info Stu,
Just humped the 8Ds off the boat today, 160lbs each, glad I ate my oatmeal!

Tony, that's what paid marina workers are for...:) I had my 4D's installed in 2000 and paid to have it done. They used a travel lift crane. My back thanks me every day.

4D's may not be true deep cycle batteries, but my gel cell 4D's have lasted 15 seasons with no noticeable loss of capacity (though I'm sure there must be some). Same with my Optima starting battery. So I'd certainly consider buying another pair when the time comes. Do they have less capacity than golf cart batteries? Yes. Are they heavier? You bet. Do they fit the boat without any modifications? Yes. Are they more expensive? WAY more expensive. Will golf cart batteries last as long? No experience, so don't know, but probably not.

As with anything, a compromise and many factors to consider; not to mention prior experience.
