Just wanted to share this:
I had earlier bought two rubber oar lock stops from West Marine. These are to stop the oars from slipping out of the oar locks and falling out of the dinghy leaving you with no oars - yikes!.
The WM stops (a) were very difficult to install and move up/down and (b) chafed through it about 2 weeks of hard use, so I took them back and figured out a better solution:
I simply wrapped the oars tightly with Velcro one-wrap that I got from Home Depot. See picture. Working great.

Thanks for posting all your new ideas, Ben. One thing to keep in mind is that the Velcro straps get eaten up by the sun after a while (pretty much like everything else).

True enough. I keep my oars in the aft locker, so this is not a problem for me personally.
