Wind Indicator

Have been having a problem with my wind indicator.

The direction arrow works fine and the rotating "cup" at  the top of the mast spins, so I get the wind arrow pointer working on the gauge but the wind speed reads "0".I found by pressing the top right button on the gauge  will get a wind reading for about5-6 seconds, then the reading jumps back to "0".

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

Thanks for any suggestions!

What is the function of button on the top right of the instrument? It doesn't sound like you have a ST60 unit because all the buttons are located on the bottom of the instrument.

In any event, the fault appears to in the instrument and not masthead. Does the keypad button, when deflected, push against a circuit board? If so, maybe there's a crack in a circuit board trace or a corroded connector? I would guess there is a dedicated wire/connector for the wind speed on the inside of the instrument. Removal and re inserting a couple times may remove some corrosion.

It's definitely an ST 60. I just misstated it in my original..

What gets me is if I push a couple of buttons (not at the boat so I don't remember the sequence)   I get the wind speed with the word "Max" on the screen and it lasts for about 5 seconds before the speed reading goes to "o" again.

Chuck-
One last thought. Maybe try recalibrating the wind gage via the ST60 manual...drive in  circles and push the designated buttons. Maybe that will wake up some sleeping software.

Maybe I read it wrong, but if youre seeing "Max" and a #, that's probably the max wind speed recorded since the last trip reset.  Does that number change?  I'd reset all power for a minute or so and if that doesn't do it, I'd start at the back of the instrument and unplug connections, check and clean them and reinstall. Also, a pic of what you see may shine some light.
