I am currently docked at Hampton Downtown Docks because my cast-aluminum gear case assembly has developed another crack. It had been welded before, but the crack has come back even larger.
I’m sure everyone will have an opinion about repairing cast aluminum, but what I’m really trying to find is a used gear case assembly.
A gear case assembly from any of these Westerbeke/Universal motors should work:
M-25XPB, M-35B, or M-40B
I did take the case by Trans Atlantic Diesel, and there is some hope that the cracks can be temporarily repaired well enough to get us back to our home port.

Awhile back I started researching replacements when the seat of my oil filter corroded badly. I did find one or two on ebay, you might check there. You can get them new, they are not cheap. But if yours is cracking, a new one might be the way to go.
