Air Filter Element ingested by engine

Hi All,
I am a new owner of a Catalina 36 and looking for some advise.  Just took out the air filter from the M-35 engine and found only a small portion of the filter element inside.  There is some filter crumps inside, large enough to be filtered by the mesh.  I am assuming the remainder of element was swallowed by the engine.  Seems like the previous owner did not change the filter for years.  What now?  The engine seems to start and run well.  Should I be worry of something getting clogged in the engine at some point? Anyone had that problem before?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advise.

If the engine's running well, i wouldn't worry about it. The disintegrated foam or cloth filter media, probably passed through the engine. Any chance a mouse got into the air filter and used it for a nest?

Hey Pkayser.  Thanks for the reply!  The engine is running well, so maybe I should not worry.
Regarding the mouse question; I think it is quite possible, but unlikely in my case.  The left over filter element is quite damp with oil.  Likely it got clogged and torn into pieces with the force of the inlet air.
