Installing 2nd reef line: line through boom

Ahoy,

I am rigging a 2nd reef line on our 1998 mkII. All of the equipment exists, I just need to run the line.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can feed the line inside the boom from one end to the other?

I am out on the water and do not have access to an electrical fish tape.

I removed the boom's aft end cap and tried to push the line through, hoping for the best, but the line just bunched up.

Thoughts?

If you have thin string, ty a large heavy nut at the end of the string, mark 10 feet,  feed the string from the aft end of the boom, lift the boom about 30 degrees and pound  on the boom and let the nut slide down the boom. When 10 feet has fed in use a coat hanger wire to fish the string out of the boom at the sheeve. I am not sure if you can remove the sheeve from outside.
Or you can feed from the sheeve side of the boom and do the same steps. If you have dodger you may not be able to slide the nut down unless you take the dodger out of the way.

Haro, that totally worked!  Thanks for the tip.

I went as far as disconnecting the boom kicker so I could get more of an angle with the boom.  I removed the boom's end cap, fed the string (and a nut as weight) from the forward end and banged/shook the boom.   We do have a dodger, so I simply swung the boom over to the side and placed the boom end on the weather walk with some padding under it. Popped out the other end eventually.

Grateful.
