Maxwell Windlass/Anchor Chain Locker

Hello,

I recently installed a new Maxwell 8 windlass on my Catalina 36. The issue that I'm having is that where the chain feeds through the gypsy into the Lazerat, it doesn't stick out as far as the old one and the anchor chain is going to rub on the backside of the lockers fiberglass. Is there something I can do without having to dismantle the new windlass such as Rhino Lining or possibly some stainless steel flashing to keep it from wearing away and tearing up the locker? Or am I going to have to take out the new windlass, fill in the 3 holes with some fiberglass epoxy and start over new? The holes to bolt in the windlass are already super close to the edge and I'm afraid that I just spent money on this new Windlass and it's the wrong one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If I understand correctly you need to raise the windlass. If that is all that is needed, I wonder if you can place 1/2" starboard under the windlass? A photo would help. Does the retaining bolt pattern match the old windlass holes?

Thank you Haro for your response, I found on this site that another member found and replace his old Maxwell Freedom 800 on his boat, which I believe from looking at your pictures you have the same one, the new replacement from Maxell which is the RC 8-8 windlass. So yes the bolt pattern is the same with both windlass's. When the chain exits the windlass into the chain locker the edge of the fiberglass is exposed to the chain and will chew the fiberglass up eventually wearing a hole. I reposted my first thread to another with the same title and that one has 3 pics, there not very good pics, at the time I wasn't taking pics to post here I was just taking pics for my own resources. Im thinking i will fill the old bolt holes with epoxy and redrill new bolt holes hoping that the larger center shaft hole will let me move the unit over and up to avoid chewing the chain locker edge. Your thoughts ?

Thanks again Haro I love your http://mei1970.org/saillavie/ website super informative and cant wait to go through all your projects.

Scott, I was wondering how you remedied the problem.
I have attached the comparison of both windlasses footprints that is drown by MAXWELL. As you discovered the chain opening is about 1/4" closer to the hull.
My solution would be to elongate the 3 mounting holes towards the chain locker by 1/4".
The other solution would be to fabricate a SS "gasket " with chain opening farther forward to avoid the chain rubbing against the fiberglass.
