Has anyone tried to install davitts on their Catalina 375? We have a davitt system to hold an 8 foot dinghy but are concerned that the stantion system might not be able to support the stress. Has anyone tried to manufacture a davitt system that does not create stress on the stantions?

davitts/can the rear stantions support the stress?
Jim-
We mounted davits on our 36MKII. I looked at some stern photos of the C375. One of the most important parts of a davit system is the "compression tube." This tube extends from the transom up to the stern rail to counter the leverage created by the dinghy weight that would bend your stern pulpit aft. Without the compression tubes, the davids would not be able to support much weight. Take a yardstick and see if you can rest it at the base of the swim seats and contact the upper stern rail. This is where the compression tube would run. If the geometries work, great, but the next issue I see is that your swim seats have tops that open and it looks like compression tubes would interfere with that aspect. If so, you would limit/eliminate access to the swim seat storage areas.
Garhauer had some good tech support for us when we added our davits. Maybe they have a solution for the C375.

I have Garhauer davits on my 89 C-36 and have learned the davit will bend before the stanchion fails. I wouldn't hesitate to put 150lbs on my davits with three ratchet straps preventing movement left, right, forward and back to minimize shock loads.
