Glow plug relay

Hi,

I have a '93 36' With the M35 engine. There is a glow plug relay mounted on the manifold that has failed. There is virtually no information on the part to help identify a replacement.  Does anyone know an appropriate replacement part?

RJL,

I'm no expert, but in my research everything I've read says people install a starter soledoid so the large current used by the glow plugs doesn't have to go all the way up to the control panel, through a switch, and then back to the engine.  You can get 'generic' starter solenoids at your local auto parts store.  Infact, the picture you display looks exactly like starter solenoids I've installed in the past.  Take it to the auto parts store and find one like it.  They cost between $50 - 100.

Hope this information helps.

Russ,

Thanks very for the information.  I'll be pursuing that today.

Gulf cart relays are also suitable. They need to be rust resistant. Paint with rustolium. I used these 85 amp contact rated relays to power the windlass remotely.

Thanks everyone.  I was able to get my hands on an appropriate starter solenoid to replace the one that had failed. The engine is running fine again.
