Catalina 36 MKII Battery Charger location and Upgrade?

Hi there, first time poster here.
Looking for a little help and advice on replacing my original equipment 2000 battery charger. Firstly, and as strange as this may sound, after checking in some hard to get to locations suggested by the Catalina factory, I've not been able to find the location of the charger. My Cat.36 MkII is a 2000 built in Woodland Hills, Calif. The Florida technical support people say it varies greatly from year to year etc., and tracing the wiring is a bear. When I do find the failed charger, any thoughts on the ProMarine line of 40 amp ProSport or ProMariner 1240P units?  Thanks,

Mine is mounted on the starboard wall of the inside of the settee directly in front of the sink. 1999.  I’ll gave to replace it this winter, probably with a ProMariner 50 or 60 amp.  It should probably be larger considering the 10% of amp hours rule, and my 2 D batteries probably have 800 nominal ah when new.  I just don’t want that large a box and wiring.  See MaineSail’s article on selection and installation.

My 1999 also has the charger (A Xantrex TrueCharge2) mounted in front of the sink (under the settee).

And John, BTW - your 4D batteries are I believe, more like a combined 350 AH, not 800...

I’m very happy with the Sterling 40 (same as pro Mariner). On my mk1 I mounted it under the nav table and placed the remote above the switch panel.  I got mine for Main Sail (marinehowto.com).   The site has great info on considerations needed to install the charger safely and best for the batteries.  He is a frequent contributor here and past Catalina 36 owner

THANK YOU BOTH...The previous owner made a lot of changes to the boat, and that location is the home of a watermker.  I'll continue to look in the bowels but the next search will involve a MIRROR,  a suggestion made by Catalina technical person Warren.
I'll reference the Mainsail article soon and, again, thanks!

Pull the drawers at the nav table. There is enough room there for a charger.  Same with drawers by the head.  The way to fine elusive electrical stuff is with a tone probe aka fox and hound. Cheap ones are about $20 on Amazon.  You shut off the breaker to the charger then clip the lead from the tone to the line going to the charger.  Use the probe to trace the wire the probe only needs to be within ~2 ft to sense it. Search amazon using “tone probe and tone generator” or “ fox and hound”.

With the probe you’ll find it without mirrors!!

Leslie Troyer:  I have never heard of a "tone probe and tone generator'!
Thanks for the heads up!
It's amazing what one can learn reading these tech postings!
Thank you!

As I always ask ... Please tell us what you found out, particularly with pictures.  There is someone who does not yet own a sister-boat, but will need to know the answer to your question five years from now. Please help that person out by telling us the end of your story. Thanks.

Thank you everyone! I am not yet succeessful in the search but am waiting on the tracer from Amazon,
I continue to be amazed at the lack of a consistent location in Cat 36 MKii around 2000 for the factory installed chargers. The previous owner made a number of modifications including installing a watermaker forward of the sink, under the large settee, so I'm still lookin'..

On my boat (1995 - early Mk II) the charger is located in the aft starboard lazarette.
