New Boat

Well we are Catalina 36 owners-still waiting form the satisfaction of ship's mortgage for the sellers loan and then we document with the USCG.

The original Universal 25 XP had a bad cylinder and the water pump was leaking into the engine block. When we removed this engine we also discovered that there was a significant hole in the exhaust elbow which could not be found by the surveyor; the prior owners was pumping CO2 into the aft stateroom and did not know it

We are re-powering with a new Beta Marine 25 HP diesel-we are waiting for the engine to be shipped from England

And probably pumping CO as well into the cabin (a rather more toxic threat!)
If you are replacing the engine, I'd take a guess that there is a significant likelihood that the old exhaust riser dimensions would not have worked anyway with the new engine.   There are, however, quite a number of prior threads on this site with details of how to fabricate a replacement (or get one made up for you) -- its one of those repair things that seems to invariably come along (usually at the worst time -- don't ask how I know!).
Good luck  and welcome to the C36IA

Welcome - if you are a paid member - there is a great writeup of someone swapping a Beta into their 36 located in the Members technical section.
