Newport To Ensenada Race Catalina Yacht with the Best corrected time goes to a Catalina 36

Hello to all the 36er's
I am proud to announce that Maverick, a 1989 Cat 36 hull# 1015 has won the Frank Butler Perpetual Trophy for the Best Corrected time finish for all Catalina Yachts entered in this years race. We ended up with a 15:50:29 corrected time. This was also good for 2nd place in PHRF J class.
It really helped that it was a very windy year (18 to 22 knots).
We ran a .75 assymetrical kite with a .75 staysail for most of the afternoon until just after our 3rd round up ( in retrospect we could have held this sail plan a bit longer had we been paying more attention to the boom vang). We then went with our 155% headsail until about 3 am. We then went to the .75 kite. I think we gybed a little late at about 4am. Once we did the boat just launched for the finish line. We hit our top speed 10.4 kts in the morning while I was driving for the finish. The boat was completely under control under the heavy kite.We never consider of reefing (we don't even have reefing lines on the sail).
We started at 11:30am friday and finished at about 0830 Sat morning.
MAN WHAT A RIDE!
I am very proud of how hard the crew worked. They always kept pushing.

Excellent work, Cap'n Bill!  These boats sure sail beautifully.
