Propane tank

After reinstalling my newly filled propane tank I noticed a reading of 30 on the gauge after I had shut off the tank valve.  Shouldn't it be 0?  Do I have a defective tan I need to replace?

I believe you are fine as the gage is after the shutoff and it is more than likely reading pressure left in the line from the solenoid to the gage or valve. I suspect if you turn the solenoid on and open your stove burner it will go to "0".

Gary is correct.  In fact, the sole purpose of the valve is leak detection.  Procedure:

  1. Close all burners
  2. Open solenoid valve
  3. Open and close tank valve
  4. Note pressure reading
  5. Wait 3 minutes
  6. Note pressure reading

Per ABYC, there should be no difference between the readings observed in step 4 and step 6.  ABYC suggests doing this procedure each time you manipulate the tank valve.
