Looking thru the archives I couldn't find an answer to this question. Are the sea cock handles designed to turn 90 degrees or 180 degrees. I ask because in closing the sea cock for the sink drain in the head it went beyond 90 degrees. I was not inclined to push it further as I preferred not to sink my boat at that moment. There is a drip coming from this sea cock. Common sense tells me 90 degrees is the right answer. Which leads me to my next question. My boat is a 1995 with original sea cocks I presume. I'm having it hauled for a bottom job next month. Would it be advisable to have the sea cocks replaced at this time. In other words what's the life span of this equipment. All the other sea cocks seem to be ok for now. Although the handles are a bit stiff. I tried to lube but had such a hard time trying to remove the damn hose I had a beer instead. Thanks, Bill

For any fluid valve when the handle is 90 degrees to the pipe/line its in the shutoff position and its open in when in-line with the hose/pipe. If you go past 90 degrees you are starting to open it again. Not being at the boat to try it, I don't believe mine go past 90 degrees so it sounds like something is wrong with yours.
As far as replacing????

Thanks Chuck, can anyone else add to this? Thanks, Bill

Mine will only go to 90 degrees, not past. I'd worry. And as to replacing when hauled, I say there is little to loose and much peace of mind to gain by replacing them. I had my first one fail on the boat in water and had to don the wet suit and go over the side to plug it and replace it. Rather do it on the hard.

Hi,
Well, the originals indeed were 90 degrees from close to open, but last year I replaced some with new forespare valves and was surprised to state the handle turns 180. I checked with the company and confirms forespare sea cock handles turns 180.
I must admit it is quite uncomfortable because sometimes is difficult to see when the handle is fully open (vertical) as it can be not totally vertical. The close position is not a problem as it close at 90.
Do not know if other brands work similar.

Interesting. I'm going to have mine replaced at my haul out next month. Pretty sure they're the originals. Thanks, Bill
