Galley Sink

Sink in the Galley has a pinhole causing leak.  Can only imagine others will develop in the postmarks that are there.  Time to replace sink.  Question is how?  It almost seems to be in place from below.  It is not flush with the counter top.

Do I have to remove the countertop to get at it?  The countertop seems to be one piece all the way around to the companionway.  Where can I get replacement sink.

 Enrique -
I've removed the sink in our MkI in order to upgrade the faucet (it was the only way I could get at the fittings). If I remember correctly there are spring clips on the underside, you need to be able to loosen the screws that hold them in place.  To get access, I had to completely remove the drawer units below the sink (both the aft ones and the small ones on the starboard side), including the frames for them (you drill out the teak bungs to expose the screws that secure the drawer frames to the cabinet, and they will slide out).
Catalina Direct's website shows a replacement galley sink ( www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm/product/1306_816/sink-polished-double-g... ), albeit at a rather scary price.

Thanks Matthew. Your recommendation sounds simpler

Enrique,
One avenue you might look into is having your existing sink coated with an epoxy type material as done by various appliance dealers. Years ago, we had an unusually shaped  small bar sink that seemed impossible to find a replacement for. I spoke to an appliance dealer in my search for a new sink. He suggest I contact a company that paints appliances. The easy fix was an application of an epoxy material- which was more like a thick paint- was applied to the surface to stop leaking and re-coat the steel sink. Worked perfectly for years.
Although, it changed the color from stainless steel to white, it was a lot easier fix than finding a new sink.
$750.00 from Catalina Direct seems like an expensive fix.

Not to sound cheap, but how about the new spray on water sealer that is on the "As seen on TV" commercials. I see they have different colors now, and also have clear color.

If I were you, I would try sealing the sink from the OUTSIDE on the bottom. That way you can slop on as much sealant as you need and not be concerned with the sink's appearance. That TV stuff does look pretty good.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago.  I coated the entire bottom of both sinks with JB Weld epoxy.  No leaks since then.
