Rudder Bearing

Thanks for all of your input regarding a rudder replacement. I have since ordered a new one  from the factory soon to be delivered. My question is as long as I am replacing the rudder should I replace the Bearing as well. I don't know that it needs to be replaced but as long as we have it apart already it's precaution. It's also not cheap. $500 for the 7 piece kit. Any experience or advise ?
Thank you,

Hi Bruce

Do you mean the top seal around the bearing tube?   My early model has only a fibreglass tube for a bearing.   Ours is still original, and it was going to be a 'bear' to fix so I've just inserted some Polycarbonate sheet to take up the small amount of wear we have.   Seems to work well so far...

Our seal is also original as far as I know, and seems to work fine keeping the water down where it belongs :-)
