I am looking for the dimensions for the companionway opening on a 1987 C36. I would like to cut out the opening in plywood and use to secure the boat while i bring the slats home for refinishing.
Searched no avail.
Thanks.

The best way is to lay the regular boards flat on a large piece of paper and use them as a pattern. I'm guessing you aren't that close to the boat though????

OK.... I'll pull my boards out of winter storage and measure them tomorrow.

Attached are the dimensions taken right from the boards. These are for a C36 MkII btw; you don't mention what model you have so....
I made a winter companionway board myself using these dimensions and found the first cut made it about 1/4" too high (may had to do with my skill with a skill saw) so you might want to consider that...had to shave it down a bit. I made my board as one piece. If you cut yours into panels your height will be reduced by the width of your saw blade times the number of cuts you make.
Because the panel inclines forward slightly when inserted, you have to cut the top and bottom edges on an angle or the board will sit up too high. That's what I tried to show in the sketch.
Hope this helps.

Chuck, thank you for taking the time to measure your companionway boards. I appreciate your help. My boat is a 87' MK I. Good question if they are the same for the MK I and II.
Best,
-Russell
Update - for the MK I, the overall dimentions were 28" high, 38" wide at the top and 22-5/8" wide at the bottom. So the companionway between the MK I and MK II are difference size.
The stripping process begins....
