Anchor Roller with Slot Roller Sticks

I realized why my anchor is so hard to raise manually.  The roller stops rolling.  I loosened the nuts on the bolt so it would spin freely by hand.  Problem is now the roller slides around in the slot and then when it gets to the top of the slot it jams the roller.  Do I need to get after the frame with a hammer or something and spread it apart?
Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

Mike,
I'm guessing the reason you haven't received any replies is because you may have a non-stock anchor roller, and people are having a hard time picturing your problem in their minds. Anchor rollers on your vintage boat have a very small roller, which only spins on its axis, and cannot move or slide in any direction.  They don't have slots. Perhaps you can post a picture.  You might get more responses.  Just a thought.

I second the recommendation to post a picture.

I have had a roller with a slot (common for Bruce anchors) and if the roller spins on its axis at the bottom of the slot but not at the top then something is binding it at the top. This much is clear. Not clear is whether the sides of the roller frame are pinching the roller at the top or whether the roller is binding internally on its spindle, as it could if it were either excessively worn on the inside or undersized to begin with. In either case the friction would win out over the torque.  Unless the frame is bent inwards at the top, you will probably fix the problem with a nice new nylon roller of the maximum diameter the roller frame will allow.

Thanks.  I looked at it again today and it did not seem bent.  I hadn't thought about it being worn on the inside I will check.  If I cant figure it out I will go take some pics and post.

I found a roller at walmart which had the same hole for the bolt.  This roller is a little smaller in diameter and width.  Fixed.

The one I had on it was just too tight.
