36 MK II Fuel Tank Capacity

I own a 2004 C36 MKII hull 2199.

I ran my fuel level down to near empty and filled up with 31.3 gallons of diesel.  I have never let my tank get lower than about 1/3 before and had always understood I had a 25 gallon tank.  From the C36 MKII manual, it says if you have one cabin model, you get a 33 gallon tank; but if you have two cabins you get a 25 gallon tank, and I have both a fore and aft cabin.  I even stopped before I ran any fuel out of the vent line at the stern, as it seemed like the fuel level was very close to the top of the fill tube.  Can anyone shed light on this?  I hope I didn't fill up at a place that is selling 0.75 gallons for every gallon on the meter?

Also, I seem to have a real problem putting fuel in faster than a slow dribble.  I get a lot of diesel foam coming up the fill tube if I try to speed up at all.  I estimate it took over 10 minutes to fill my tank.  I'm suspicious that my air vent tube may be blocked and plan to check that out.  Anyone else have trouble taking forever to fill your diesel tank?

Thanks,

Ken,
I believe the design of our systems are such that a fast fill is impossible. Here in Maine some of the marinas do have the capability of slowing down their pumps for boats like ours. I notice the local lobsterman can fill at a much faster rate and of course take on a good deal more fuel. Meanwhile while I'm filling I have to take care to make sure it does not bubble up or come out of the vent line down the transom. Couple that with wakes as other boats go by or the natural roll of the water all makes this an unpleasant task for me....so you are not alone, just glad I do not have to do it very often!

I see Larry Brandt had posted a pic of his data plate for the 2002 MK 11. showing 25 gals.

6.3 gallons is a significant difference...  I could assume maybe up to a gallon in the fill tube, but that difference would indeed make me wonder about the accuracy of the pump!

Do you know where your tank is located? Is the fill port side aft next to water fill? I have seen a couple C- 36 charter boats that say they have a 32 gal tanks. I'm 99% sure mine is a 25 gal tank. I have had the access panel off and I'm sure you couldn't put a larger tank in that area. I'm confused as well.

My fuel tank is on port aft side of boat.    I have center and stbd water tanks under the large aft berth mattress in the rear cabin.  I have a fuel shut off round access door that unscrews on the floor of my large port cockpit storage locker.

I checked my fuel vent hose and it is clear.

On the charter boats that have a 32 gallon capacity, do you know where that tank is located?

Ken,
I think in MOST cases, MkI boats have 32-33 gal fuel tanks under and forward of the galley sink, and MkII boats have a 25 gal fuel tank port side aft, under the cockpit locker.  You never know what a PO might have done, but that's the way they came from the factory.  As far as a charter listing is concerned, it's all too easy for the person posting the ad to glance at a random C36 spec sheet, and copy the numbers, not knowing the differences between years and/or models.  I've seen similar mistakes on brokerage listings.  There's no such thing as a 25HP M25!!  Hope this helps.

Your tank location  sounds like it's just like mine. I'm 99% sure it's 25 gal. No room for larger tank in that space. I think your got over charged? You might want to have a talk with them. I bet tom's right about the charter guys. They are showing a MK II in the ad, but I can't find a MkII anywhere that uses a larger tank.
