Advice needed: HIN discrepancy

Hi,

we are in the progress of purchasing a used 1988 Catalina 36, financing through BoatUS. They found that the HIN in the documents is different from the HIN on the hull by one character / month.

Boat US Finance determined that this goes back to a mistake by Catalina back in 1988. Also they say that the same issue had been discovered some 10-ish years ago when the boat was last transferred, and information should be on-file with the Coast Guard.

BoatUS is trying to get reosolution from either of these sources. But now we have been waiting for two weeks with no movement - and no boat. I would have thought that at least Catalina would reply quickly to BoatUS... But it seems that this is not the case.

So I am looking for advise here: has anyone else had this kind of issue with Catalina and has experience with their service around such issues? Is there anyone at Catalina who could help resolve the issue more quickly?

Thanks,

Daniel

The issue was finally resolved by a statement from Catalina clarifying the HIN.

Thank gawd you didn't have to wait for the Coasties! My CG-1258 has taken over four months!

Well, the CG has not processed that one yet ;-)

We picked up the boat in Long Island and are now cruising up to Boston with some interruptions due to having go back to work during the week.

Cheers,

Daniel
