New interior cushion cost?

Hi everyone.  I just got a local quote for replacement of all the interior cushions for $6500.  That would be for regular foam and Sunbrella fabric for my MK1.  If I go with leatherette, it would be about $8500.

Seems high to me.  I seem to recall that I could order them from Catalina Direct for $5000 last year.

Anyone have recent experience with this? (local or Catalina Direct)?

You might get a quote from Island Nautical, formerly NewJSI, in St. Pete, Florida.

After looking around for a couple of years we finally had new cushions made for our main cabin. There are a lot of people who do interiors for boats in the Seattle area and we found that they all were were really expensive. None would recover our 20 year old cushions, and all started at 6k or more just for the main cabin. At the end of the day even Catalina was going to be 6k or so with our choice of fabric.

I have tried to write a detailed reply, but the new website so limits the size so that I can't even get the basic info about our solution into a post. We ended up doing very well a a place called Cushionsource.com. Beautiful results, half the price. Steep learning curve though to get it right. I would be glad to help and describe our experience, including when  to buy to get big sale prices.Feel free to call: 505 670 1163 (pst) or e-mail, flynr@aol.com

I would suggest doing it in stages.. I've owned my C36 since 1997 and have done it twice, but in sections over a few months in the off season.

The cocktail table area has a total of seven cushions.   The dining area has ten, the aft cabin two.  You’ve got seventeen cushions not counting the two beds or the helm seat.

Find a local furniture upholstery shop in the off season.   Take in two or three at a time.    As long as you pick a material that is stock, you will save a lot.   It’s the typical boat (break out another thousand) scenario..   Marine upholstery instantly increases the price.

I told my local upholstery shop to take their time and I would come in once a month.   Over the six months of the summer season (less work here in Lauderdale) she got them all done.

Overall, I think I am less than $3,000 for my entire interior.

Churchill Bros, in Anacortes, who did our excellent full cockpit enclosure last month ($7K), quoted me $800 just for the aft berth mattress and hardbacked connecting piece.

We'll keep our rare guests on air-mattress for now.

When I replaced my interior cushions inmy C30 I found the best price was directly from Catalina.... and, for a reason I can never understand, if you haver the cushions shipped to a business (marina) address rather than a home address, the shipping cost is less (or some cost associated with the purchase).

I just replaced all of my 24 year old foam and fabric. After getting quotes from Catalina (Hilario) and JSI, I decided to do it with a local upholstery shop. I bought and furnished hi density foam and the sunbrella fabric. All in all, I spent $4,000 total for labor, sunbrella and foam (for the salon, game table seating, v berth and aft berth), which was a good savings over Catalina and JSI....plus the admiral picked out cusotm sunbrella fabrics. I am very pleased with the outcome and can supply my foam vendor....contact me if interested

Hi Joe,
I purchased the foam at www.atrim.com  ....click on the "F rolodex card" for foam and look at the "superfoam 5". I wen with the 36lb for sleeping areas and 55lb for seating in the salon..The superfoam is high quality foam! The 55lb is FIRM, but I like the support and don't "bottom out" anymore.

The people at the company are great and you may want to order a sample first to try it out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

No, different size and shape.  My buddy has a C42 and it has an entirely different layout.

I have V-Birth cushions from by C36 as I recently replaced them with new ones from Catalina Direct.  The old ones are still in pretty good shape and have no-rips but the cushions are not very firm (like the new one are) If anyone in the Corpus Christi, TX area is interested.
