Teak Bench Removal

Anyone know how to remove the teak bench from the shower area? We just bought our 1995 Catalina 36 and we're trying to clean under it.

smcleod,
If you look carefully, you will see four teak bungs covering four screws which hold the teak seat in place. Some have used a drywall screw, some have used a drill bit, and some have used an exacto knife to remove the bungs. You will need to buy four new bungs for the reinstall. When I took mine off, I decided that I did not want it permanently fastened. I wanted to easily take it off for cleaning, so I replaced the bungs, and then installed four 1/4" dowels in the fiberglass, sticking up about 1/2". By drilling 5/16" holes into the bottom of the teak, the teak seat stays in place, but easily comes off for cleaning. Hope this helps. There's a link to a bunch of projects I've done, including this one, at:

Thanks Tom. The dowel approach seems like a winner. I tried your link but it doesn't forward me to anything. It just sends me to a blank page which has the number 2.

If the link above doesn't work for you, it means that you are not logged in as a member of C36/375IA. The Technical Section of the website is only available to members. Many have said membership is the best money they have spent for their boats. Just a thought.

FWIW, after removing mine and filling the holes, I just used velcro to hold the seat down. Now it just pops off for cleaning underneath.
