How not to remove deck caulking

OK, so you have bought 42' classic keeler, and you want to update the deck.

Step 1. Sand the deck back to good wood and then apply something to the teak deck to revitalise the surface - but use something that results in a tacky crappy surface.

Step 2. Sand the surface back again - leaving a very thin teak deck.

Step 3. Decide that the caulk needs replacing, so attack it with an angle grinder.

Oh, did I mention that he has also replaced several of the halyards with rope he bought from Bunnings, that has perished in the sun, and is not even strong enough to tie a reef knot (it just falls apart in your hands).

Laminex over the teak might have been an option for him.
