Saw this project in Woodsmith Mag a few months ago. Modified the dimensions to fit the stove. Solves 2 storage issues, where to keep the cutting board and where to store the sharp knives..!
Top is mahogany and maple, legs and trim are African padauk, scraps I had lying around the shop.

Nice work, Gary(am I being sexist to assume that Cathy did not post this?)
Quick question about the slide out drawer: do you have a locking mechanism to prevent opening while under way and how much clearance did you give the drawer? I don't want to raise the level of the cutting board too much since we Conyers' are a fairly short lot.
I love the idea and have already glued the pieces of the butcher block together to make my own!
Very nice indeed
Let's hope that the admiral does not find this post.... :p

I'm sure Cathy would get a chuckle. I have her to thank for my woodworking shop, since it was her idea to have it built..!!!!
Chris and Lisa; I made the legs 2 3/8" high. But the height of the knife drawer will depend on how thick the handles are on your knives. That affects the clearance between the bottom of the drawer and the 2 grates above the burners. So the height of the legs really depends..... Not in the pics are the 3/8" rare earth magnets under each knife blade which hold the knives in place. They're available at Rockler.com.
My notes on the plan have the width of the board at 18" and depth of 11 1/2".

Hi there, that looks too beautiful to cut on! :-)
Just in case anyone's interested, here's a picture of the knife holder I made for us... Just some teak plywood carved out in the shape of knives and a thinner layer of ply glued to it. The knives are at an angle and have not fallen out even offshore.
