A few years have passed since this subject was discussed. Any replacement model which were mentioned in the past is now long since disappeared. Any recent success in finding a model that fits a 9.75" space?

I have been searching for several years for a replacement. I finally found a small microwave on Craig's List that was over 20 years old. It does work but I would like to find a new one if anyone makes that size any more. The alternative, I guess, is to enlarge and modify the shelf frame. If someone finds a source, please post it.

Is it really only 9.75 inches wide?

David,
It is the height that is the problem. My microwave is installed on the shelf above the stove. I bought one that was about 10 1/8" high and it would not fit so I returned it. The width was not a problem. Of course my boat is older but I think the interior is basically the same layout.

Been there, done that. If you drill down to identify those models you'll find that they are listing the width, height, and depth of the inside of the oven. None of those listed are less than 10.125" high on the outside of the box.

Very disappointing to hear. As I mentioned I did buy a small one that was about 10.125" high and tried to force it in, but there was no way to make it fit. I think you would have to take about 1/2 inch off of the lip of the shelf; I really don't want to do that. Thanks for the feed back.

Seems like there is a double layer of plywood on the bottom of the opening. The cabinets left and right of it have a lower bottom. I'm thinking it might be possible to get that out and open the shelf up inside by 3/4". Also, microwaves always have clearance under them for some air flow, so they are up on short feet. I'm also thinking of possibly finding a microwave that I can remove the feet from, then cutting holes in the bottom of the cabinet in order to provide the necessary air flow. There should a solution for us somehow.

THat's what my PO did, took some wood off the lip and put a larger micro in. Unfortunately, they didn't do a very good job of it...not horrible, but certainly not perfect either.

The problem we are having is our Microwave will not work with the modified square wave from our Xantrex 1800 watt inverter. I can set the clock, but it shuts down quickly after hitting the start button. It works fine on shore power. I know some microwaves have a problem with the modified square wave, depending on how their electronics are designed. I a have friend whos boat microwave works fine, but the clock runs at double speed.

Fellow C36 owners I have great news!!! I had to be in Horseheads NY to visit a client today. Got in late last night and this morning while getting dressed I noticed the microwave. Wow! It looked small. Kind of the same as in my Catalina 36MKII...... Why I'll be darned....it is!!! Woo Hoo!!! It's a Sanyo Model No. EM-N107B.Date of Manufacture: September 1999. Check it out!
I explained to the hotel manager and that I wanted, no, I needed to take that microwave with me for my boat. Guess what. She said OK! My cost? $75, the price she spends for new ones at Lowes. I mentioned there are many other boat owners like me that have been searching for this microwave. She says she would be happy to accommodate any others who might want to purchase these as long as there units to sell. This is not a small place so now is the time for all who need this microwave to act! Probably will cost just north of $100/ unit because she would be shipping and handling, but so what! Her motivation is to put new units in the hotel. I have to say it looks brand new! See attached photos.
Not sure if our posting rules allow me to publish her name and contact info so for now if you want her name and contact info please email me at kevin.silver@verizon.net.

Not sure if there are those still trying to find a microwave to fit this small space, but I found one online after months of searching. GE632167. It is available through Sears online from UnbeatableSales.com
It is available in White or Black, 9 7/8 inches height. Kind of pricey at $173 but is the only thing I have found less than 10.1 height.

Hi there, the GE micro you listed shows a hieght of 10.75" on every website. Where did you get the 9 7/8" dimension from? Looking for a replacement for a 1999 C36. Thanks!

Evidently they changed the sizes for the above model, because I just searched for the GE632167 and it shows as 10.75 inches high.
I just spent hours looking for a microwave that was 9.75 inches high, but could find none. However, I did find three RCA models on the Home Depot website that are all 10.0 inches high -- all for around $50. Here are the model numbers and dimensions.
RMW733 in black or white - 10.0 high; 18.0 wide, and 12.75 deep
RMW741 in stainless steel - 10.0 high, 18.0 wide, and 14.0 deep.
My OEM microwave was 13.5 deep, so the stainless steel one, may stick out a little.
Looks like I will still have to make the opening another 0.25 inches larger at the top to make any of these fit.
No idea on the quality of the microwaves, but at that price, I may buy two right now.

My original microwave didn't crap out but it became too ugly to look at, and an attempt to make it pretty proved more labor intensive than I was willing to do. After a long and rather intensive search, I was unable to find a replacement that would fit in the existing shelf. I settled on a Westinghouse 600 watt MODEL WCMB/W. It is black and has no clock. That way it isn't using juice when not being used, and there is no need to constantly reset that pesky clock. It uses a simple twist timer. The down side of the whole issue is that it doesn't fit in the existing shelf. However, removing a small amount of the overhead wooden enclosure is all that is needed to fit this rascal in. I was able to pull this off by carefully clamping a straight board under the overhead enclosed as a guide and straight edge for the small cordless electric circular saw that I use to make that critical cut. That worked well. There is the rub. A small screw-up will leave a noticeable blemish. If you are brave enough to try this, you need to know that there some through bolts and nuts hidden in the overhead board. Remove the teak plugs and check the depth of the bolt before making your cut line. Again, no big deal. After making this very critical cut you will have to finish the cut to both ends with a small hand saw. A hacksaw blade will work just fine. A bit of sanding to round the edges is all that is needed to finish. I am quite happy with this little microwave and the installation. I use the microwave regularly.

I was able to purchase a Samsung 800 watt microwave that was slightly higher than the opening. I cut out 1 inch om the top of the opening and viola I now have a microwave that fits. The biggect challenge was securing it from under the cabinet. Have had it 4 3 years and works great. Love having the extra power.

I've been trying to follow the links posted and searching for models that folks have said fit in the existing area, all were dead ends. I think poster Capt Moon has the right idea by cutting out the trim piece at the top to fit a slightly taller micro. Wondering if a finish router, dremmel tool with cutting bit or a Roto Zip would work. Definitly need to to set up a clamped straight edge to guide the tool. I would cringe every time I looked at an over cut or missed place cut!

I too am in search of the elusive microwave for my 02..... Please, any help would be great. Height is exactly what ....10 1/8?
Found this beauty on Amazon today. Not sure how long it would last, never heard of the brand "Comfee" before, but for $65 it may be worth a try. It stands 10.2", which is the shortest one I can find on the market. For that money, you may be able to take an angle grinder to any metal "feet" that may be on the bottom and get her down to 10" or less. The other feature that would be nice about this unit is apparently you can turn off the display. So you wouldn't have to tolerate the flashing clock with the wrong time, nice feature! If someone tries it, let me know!

Could not find replacement that would fit so had to enlarge the opening slightly.
We have a Galaxy Microwave on our 94 1.5 that is 9.75 inches high and a touch short of 18" wide. Have never had a use for it. We are cruising Florida at the moment and I'm not familiar with shipping a microwave so I think you would have to arrange a pick-up. Will be in the Miami area for the next month or so. ph 912-467-2289.
Just Bought a 2001 MKII and was looking for a microwave found these 2 currently available.

The Walmart Mainstays 0.7 cf model fit perfectly into the space in my 1997 Cat-36 MK II. I threaded a couple of bolts through the shelf into the chassis to hold it in place.
