C36 MkII New owner

Hi all

Just wanted to share my happiness since as of yesterday I am the happy owner of a 1999 Cat 36 mkii!!

We searched for months for the right boat to upgrade to from our 28 footer, as with the family increasing, baby number 2 arriving in June, we thought that we needed a better layout.
I must admit that we fell in love with this boat the minute we saw it, and cant wait to expend time on it with the family!!!:D

Although the boat is in great shape, I will soon have to start baby probing the boat and adding a tender for easy island hopping, thus I will start posting soon with plenty of questions.

thank you all for such a good site and friendly community!!!:cool:

regards
Andres

Andres,

Congrats on the new boat, you will love it. If you have a moment, please add an auto signature to your posts with some information about your boat, where you sail, etc.

I am going through the same process. We have a 1.5 year old son. I can tell you that if you have the traditional layout (Saloon Table stores up on the bulkhead) a Pack-n-Play will fit perfectly on the floor in the open space where the table normally goes in the "down" position - with plenty of room to walk around. He slept past 8am this last Sunday morning. (no we do not use it under way)

We probably need a separate thread for sailing with infants/small kids to discuss mods, safety gear, etc.

Enjoy the new boat. BTW the membership is worth every penny!

Hi

Thanks guys.

Yes, I have the traditional layout, this was one of the main points for us, we have a 19 month old girl and the one cooking for June.

Totally agree on the sailing with infants/kids section.

I am formally taking over the boat on Friday, with the PO giving us the tour and handing over the remaining set of keys.

Regards
Andres

Congrats Andres. I know you'll be very happy with her. I bought my '94 MK1.75 two years ago and have never regretted it. I too bought a boat that was in excellent condition but I've found lots of things to improve for my cruising style. And I've enjoyed the projects almost as much as the sailing/cruising. This site and all the members here are one of the best reasons for buying a Catalina 36. These folks have provided me an amazing amount of assistance, eagerly and in great detail. I'm still amazed and I try to return the favor whenever I can. Buy the two year membership. Its worth ten times the price.
Fair winds.

Welcome, Andres! You will enjoy your boat.

Thanks, Sam, for that terrific endorsement. You echo my personal sentiments exactly.

Hi

Yes, I am trying to register, I am very eager to see the docs about upgrades done by owners and other tech docs. Unfortunately I keep on getting an error with my newly opened PayPal account, I guess that I need to wait a few days until I verify the account.

But I am most interested on baby probing the boat, as mentioned I have a 19 month old and another cooking ready for June.

Andres, I will be in Hong Kong beginning of May. I own a 97. If you have any questions, I might be able to spend a few hours and go through the boat with you. If there is some small items, hard to find there,I can possibly pack something for you.

Hi

Much appreciated the offer, but for now I dont really know what to buy

Today was the fist time we were actually on the boat and we expended most of the time cleaning and a small spin around but just with the engine :D

But let me know once you have dates and we can have a beer or two

I will be in Hong Kong only for the afternoon of May 10. Coming in from Guangzhou leaving for Vietnam on the 11th. Not sure were I am staying Friday night yet. Was thinking close to the airport, but I can change it if your have a suggestion convenient to the boat.

hi

Hong Kong is well connected, you can take the airport express from Central and be at the airport in 25 min.

I would stay around Wanchai, best bars are around there.
