Hi All,
I just bought a 1993 C36 with the L-shaped dinnette. My boat has a noticeable starboard list. I have four batteries under the aft starboard gametable seat, and another battery (can't remember what type) in the forward gametable seat. I just pulled them all out and put them in the center of the boat, and it leveled out. The starboard list really bugs me. So I was wondering what you guys thought of moving (at least some of them) in with the water heater under the dinnette seat just in front of the galley. Someone told me they thought it might be dangerous to locate them there, as a tiny part of the bilge area extends back there. I figured it would at least be safer than what I am moving out of there, namely the inverter and the battery charger. Any thoughts on the subject???
All the best,
Joel Schwartz

Joel, an experienced C36-er, Jeff Berman, from here in the SF Bay Area but not active on this board, did just that. He has (6) 6 volt batteries right in front of his galley sinks. Works great for him. John Reimann has also installed batteries in that location. Both are Mark IIs.

Thanks Stu. I'll try to track down their configurations. You wouldn't happen to know if it is at all dangerous to locate the batteries there, or any special precautions that must be taken would you? The guy who keeps telling me that it would be dangerous to locate the batteries there notes that the bilge extends back to that area, as well as pointing out all the water hoses that could come loose or spring a leak, etc. This has got me nervous about moving some or all of my batteries to that location. But that darned starboard list bugs me to no end too! I was thinking of just balancing the boat with lead, but then I ran into a bunch of threads cautioning against it.
Being a new and completely green boat owner would suck if it wasn't so cool!
