Hello again!
I'm working out my energy budget and have managed to find amp consumption numbers for everything except My stereo/CD player. The manual says "Max Power output = 52W x 2 Speakers at 4 ohm -- manual". I'm not sure that is the right number to use.
52 W / 12V = 4.3 A
So is it right that the total for the 2 speakers is 8.6 A? That seems like a lot.
anyone with more electrical know-how than I have?
Thanks,
Peter L

Empirical evidence only, but I have found that if you listen to the stereo at less than "pissed off neighbour" volume, you will draw less than an amp. Once you crank it up the power consumption rises commensurately. As does the ire of your neighbour!
We have a Sony car stereo with a CD changer. It runs about 0.2 to 0.3A. When I turn on the powered subwoofer I added some years later, it goes up to 0.7A. If you use 1A you'll be fine for your budget.

You already have your answer, Peter, but just for the record, the output power ratings for audio equipment has nothing to do with the average input power (which you are looking for).

I know we answered this question, but here is a pretty definitive discussion by people who know their stuff:

You can go back and read it from the beginning, too.
