When I moved up from my '88 C30 to my C36, one of the things I loved about the boat was the galley storage bin. Tons of space I didn't have on the other boat. But it has one disadvantage; it's quite deep, and even with some plastic bins in there, I always find it difficult to get at things like cans and other smaller stuff that winds up in the bottom and under everything else.
So I decided to make a sliding 'drawer' to keep that stuff in. I measured the inside of the bin, and made a pair of notched runners. I found a plastic bin at Lowes that was the exact size needed to fit inside the existing bin. I made a pair of wood supports and screwed them to the plastic bin. The supports fit into the notches in the runners to lock the drawer in place. I intend to keep it locked to port most of the time
Works great. After I've lived with it for awhile, I may make another for the starboard side, if I can find a plastic bin that's a bit narrower. If anyone's interested, I can supply my measurements.

My wife saw what you did and likes it ,any measurements would be use full. Why does the next bin need to be narrower?

The counter overhangs the storage bin a bit less on the side by the sinks, than it does on the port side. I believe 7 1/2" vs. 9 1/2". In order to preserve access to the bottom of the bin, I wouldn't want to block it too much, so it would be nice if I could find a bin that's around 8" wide. But I'll decide that after I've lived with it for awhile.
I left my measurements on the boat (of course). I'll post the next time I'm down there.

Nice job! I've been planning on doing this, but didn't think of notching the rail. Great idea!

I did much the same thing but just made a shelf with 3" fiddles on the two exposed ends. Has worked well. I set the height quite specifically to clear the top of a two-six of rum, only to find that we typically end up with a 40 pounder and it is just a hair to tall to let the shelf slide easily. Measure twice and cut once people!

I see you screwed the sides in . What did you go into or did you put nuts on the backs?

When I screwed mine in I just used self-tapping screws into the fiberglass bin sides. There was about 1" air gap behind the bin sides and the outside of the galley unit on each side.

yep, there's enough space to screw them on. I was careful drilling the first hole; drilled the hole that would be next to the stove just in case. I'd say 1" is about right. I used a very slow drill speed to be safe.

Is the plastic thick enough to hold the screws or did you glue the rails also

If you mean the galley bin, I think it's made of fiberglass; or at least it smelled like a new boat when I drilled the holes:) I sized the holes like I do for anything drilled into fiberglass, eg., so only the threads are visible if you hold the bit in front of the screw. When I tightened the screws, they bottomed out solidly (turned by hand). I don't know what number size the screws were, I just used what I had on hand. Pilot hole was probably 1/8", so not a large screw.
I used screws with washers to attach the plastic bin to the cross bars. They are under the lip of the bin, so that should be taking the load along with the screws.
