Oil pressure alarm shorting

In replaced my lift pump, which probably had not been functioning in years. I always kept enough fuel in the tank! The pump works, now I have the oil pressure alarm going off! It starts beeping as soon as I turn the key. The engine starts fine and runs fine. When i disconnect the pump, the alarm stops. What gives?

Bill, I'll betcha it has something to do with this, reply #30: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,5078.30.html

Check your wiring out first before you think it's a sender, although it could be that or a loose wire on one end or the other.

Stu thanks much for the link. Interesting stuff. I understand allot more about the lift pump and the wiring.
I'm still not sure why the pump would short the oil pressure alarm as soon as it's connected to power.
Any more help would be appreciated.

Bill, a parallel discussion of the same topic: the last post has what appears to be answer to your question: http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=133855

I just don't know because I don't have that setup on our boat as per the originally linked discussion.
