The exhaust coming from the back of the boat has alot of black in it. It was always there under load, but seems to be getting worse. Just pulling away from the dock now causes it.
A local diesel tech, told me it is likely the injectors....about a 700.00 job, but said this may not be the problem!
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Is it black all the time or just when you're increasing the power as you leave the dock? The latter is fairly normal, the former is not.
My limited understanding is that black smoke indicates incomplete combustion. As you've been told, worn injectors that allow unatomized fuel to drip in the cylinders before the injector fires is a common cause. You might try checking that the airfilter is clean and un-obstructed before resorting to replacing/rebuilding the injectors.
I did have rebuilt injectors on my previous boat with good results.
