At haul-out last fall I noticed that the keel had many small blisters :mad:. But from the previous posts here it looks like the keel is solid lead with no outer fiberglass - maybe just barrier coat and anti fouling. Is it worth the effort to fair and repaint the keel for this problem or is it just cosmetic?:confused:

Ours is really rough on the top of the wing, not sure if it's a coating or if the lead casting is rough, will find out this spring. Not blisters though, just a very rough surface in a few spots. I intend to fair it out since I'm doing everything else on the bottom I might as well do this also and barrier coat it with the rest.
My non-expert opinion is that your keel issues are cosmetic. Serious blistering of the fiberglass hull can be a structural matter, but the keel is solid lead and then painted. Some paint jobs may be better prepped than others and the paint could peel or blister.

The keel is cast lead. No blisters to worry about. Roughness that you want to get rid of? Get the file out and smooth it, then put a coat of bottom paint on it.
