Wiring Question

I have recently joined the ranks of Catalina 36 owners. During the process of trouble shooting/replacing batteries I found a small gauge (14 or 16) wire connected to the negative side of the starter battery (or "bank 2") that trails off toward the stern. I have not traced this wire yet, but was wondering if anyone here could hazard an educated guess as to its purpose. Any help is appreciated. I'll probably be back with more questions as I get more involved with our "new" boat.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, could you post what your boat details are ie year/hull number/engine/keel/mast configuration? There's many different engines that had been put in these boats and each has different wiring details. Perhaps put it in your signature, makes it easier for people to respond with relevant info.

And congrats on buying a great boat!

Here is a ventured guess with some documentation. It would appear that there is a ground wire of some size going from battery 2 to the ground busbar. As I mentioned, only a guess, my issue would be if the PO has added or changed anything it could be for something else. My guess though is it should be a size 10AWG. See attachment

Thanks much for the schematic! If it is going to the buss bar, it is taking a rather circuitous route. I'm thinking this is a PO add-on. I'll trace it and let y'all know what I learn.

I've been lurking on this forum ever since I started entertaining the idea of purchasing Wind Ensemble. I've learned a lot and will probably abuse your kindness further. :-)

Thanks again,
Jeff

It appears to be the ground wire for the SmartPilot.

You're welcome and glad to be here. Hopefully, sometime down the road I'll be able to give rather than receive!
