Holding Tank odor

So maybe angels don't take it away in the night!

I replaced my head and black hose with a new white hose, but I still notice a chemical head odor when musing about on the port couch.

I have inspected the holding tank (now 13 years old) and see no apparent leaks.
The tank is black in color.

Any thoughts? I think I may replace the entire system.

Thanks!
Rich

I used to have a stinky holding system. I found a treatment used by RV people on line called the GEO system. For a boat, this involves emptying your holding tank, mixing a cup of laundry detergent and a cup or two of calgon water softner powder in some water and pouring it into the toilet or holding tank, and then filling the holding tank with fresh water (not salt water). Then go sailing or otherwise agitate the tank for a while.

It really got rid of the stink, seems environmentally safe, and did not cost very much.

Rich, there was a topic on the Tech Discussion last week: http://www.c36ia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=856

Peggie Hall knows the subject very well. I suggest you follow through as Duane did.
