Hatch Friction Hinge

The rivits securing one of the friction hinges to the frame on my forward hatch have broken. A 3/16" rivit will fit, but I have not been able to install the rivit because it is difficult to get an angle to align the holes and the pop rivit tool needs put pressure on the head of the new rivit which is recessed into the gray plastic. A screw was suggested by the Lewar distributor but the minor thread needs to be 3/16", which means drilling the plastic to accommodate the major thread size. Has anyone had success making this repair? I was unable to find a reference on TechNotes or searching the Forum.

John,
I'm not 100% sure what you are describing, but for getting the rivit tool to work with the rivet in a recess, have you tried putting a few small washers on the shaft of the rivet, before you insert the shaft of the rivet into the rivet tool? This would keep the head of the rivet recessed, and still allow the tool to do its job. Just a thought.

The washers placed between the rivet gun and the rivet head will do the trick. I made this same repair about a month ago.
