Microwave replacement

My 16 year old microwave recently quite. It's on the shelf over the stove. The opening through the trim is only 9 1/2 inches. My current microwave is a Samsung and is only 9" high, 12" deep and 18" wide. I have searched every where and cannot find a new microwave less that 10" high. Has anyone found a replacement?

Richard, here's been our recent experience: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,5480.0.html Seems woodworking may be in order unless you can find one "off" an older boat, say, hurricane damaged ones. Happy hunting.

That's sort of my last resort. Several friends with much newer 36MII also have the same unit; so I am hoping there is some source.

I had to replace the original unit with a 240 volt version when I brought my boat from the US to Australia. I also could'nt find a unit to fit.
Don't be put off by the woodworking.

I had a friend with a small router (actually it was a laminate trimmer) with a simple straight bit. I clamped a piece of wood above the opening to give a fixed guide and simply shaved about 1/2" off the top of the opening. I cleaned up the corners with a round file. Cost me a bottle of wine and looks perfect and gave me the choice of about 10 microwaves.

After a lot of shopping and internet surfing, I could not find any microwave less that 9 1/2 high. I then searched Craig's List (Chicago) and finally found an old one that is just 9 1/2 inches that I will make fit. Cost $25-hopefully it will last a while. Be nice to your microwaves.

I found this Goldstar at Best Buy. It's pretty cheap, but it works great.

Mike,

I missed finding this one. The one I bought is a very old Goldstar, but it fit and works. I was on a friends new Cat 387 today that had a Tarpan that fit into his 91/2" opening.

Thanks for the reply.
