Looking for Industrial Sewing Machine

The admiral is looking to replace our sewing machine and purchase an industrial machine. She plans on changing the sacrificial sailcloth on our jib and several other projects on the boat. We have looked at the Sailrite machine. Has anyone had any experience with this machine or can anyone recommend one?

There was one posted on San Antonio Craigslist this past weekend. Might be worth a phone call.
It is listed as a sawing machine. Don't even get me started on people's inability to spell.

My wife loves the Sailrite we picked up several years ago at the Annapolis show.

Bill, if you see something past tense, it's saw. Maybe in their twisted mind, the sewed something in the past and thought they saw it, not sewed it, therefore it's now a sawing machine as they used it in the past and not now.

I had a dock neighbor who loved their Sailrite. Others think it's just sew-sew.:p

I have had a Ultra feed (blue one)from sailrite for over 7 yrs and love it, Have made a winter cover out of top gun. Done many of repairs on sails, sewed leather. Red did our dodger.

One thing that I learned in a course I took about the zigzag stitch, I though it was stronger, but the reason why they went to a zigzag was to save time. The stitch is as strong as sewing in 2 straight rows.

The only thing I wished it had was a bigger throat, so you can get more material through it, but you learn how to manage.

howdy,
I had a sailrite for a time and like it but I don't know that some other heavy duty sewing machine would not work as well for a lot less. I would check ebay you should be able to to pick up a machine for somewhere in the 2~3 hundred dollar range that would work just as well. I sold my sailrite on ebay and got a go price for it and wound up buying a medium duty sewing machine that works great for what i want for around 150 dollars.
just a thought

Well, broke down and order the Admiral a Sailrite machine and she has been busy with it ever since it arrived two weeks ago. I will post pictures of all of the projects that she has made here on the C36 web site.
